Preguntas para el Público (Questions for the Public) is a series of questions painted on pendants, banners, and standards which aim to provoke a public conversation about the past. These sculptures, waiting to be carried in ritual gatherings, in parades, or in protest, ask the viewer to reconsider the public discussion about history and especially how we listen to the historical discourses of other cultures. Colwell made work for the 15th Havana Biennal, as a silent call to reflection about differing historical perspectives which are difficult to discuss publicly. Preguntas para el Público fue un proyecto hecho en respuesta a las dificultades que encontré al hacer otro trabajo, How to Explain History To. La escultura usa las formas de colgantes, pancartas y estandartes, con la finalidad de preguntar cómo podemos conversar en público, en silencio, acerca del pasado. Estos objetos, esperando ser cargados en reuniones rituales, en festivales o en protestas, presentan seis preguntas para la discusión.
